student accountant speaks to Mohammad Huzaifa Khedarun – a new affiliate blogger – to find out about his career aspirations and how he believes he can inspire other students and affiliates in attaining new heights.
Mohammad, who became an affiliate in August 2007, currently works as cabin crew for Air Mauritius, the national airline carrier of Mauritius. 'I studied between touchdowns and take offs,' says Mohammad. 'During my stopovers, I had the opportunity to join study sessions with other fellow students. It is astounding to note the learning methods which differ greatly from one country to another; enriching encounters that provided substantial support throughout my studies.'
Mohammad first became interested in pursuing a career in accountancy after he realised that it is a dynamic one which offers opportunities for personal growth and flexibility – in terms of global mobility and varied roles; from consultancy to top-level management. 'A career in accountancy is an endless ladder which keeps you climbing higher and higher!' says Mohammad.
'Flying is a nurtured dream,' continues Mohammad with a smile. He started to work as a cabin crew for Air Mauritius in 2003. 'It is a marvellous job, which requires a high sense of integrity, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.'
Mohammad is also working towards achieving his practical experience requirements for membership. 'During my layovers in Mauritius, I work part-time in a medium-sized accountancy firm. I am exposed to taxation, audit ing, and consultancy. Getting the right level of experience is as important as passing the exams,' he explains.
Achieving membership will be a great accomplishment for Mohammad. 'ACCA membership will enable me to take on more responsibilities and the opportunity to fly higher. It will provide an important milestone in shaping my career. Being welcomed into the world's largest and fastest-growing global professional accountancy body will provide a unique sense of achievement. Air Mauritius offers great opportunities towards career development. Having an international qualification like ACCA, I aspire to attain a strategic post in one of Air Mauritius' international offices, thus exercising my full potential.'
In becoming an ACCA blogger, Mohammad hopes to explore a number of areas. 'I intend to cover various issues ranging from getting practical experience, discussing ethical issues and sharing my personal study methods. I am pleased that ACCA is using such an innovative method of communication to assist trainees in their career development. I welcome students and affiliates comments on my blogs, to express and share their experiences on a wide range of subjects. Such interaction will surely yield enriching results.'
Mohammad has now passed his ACCA exams, and has been an ACCA member since January 2008. He is currently exercising as a Professional Accountant.
