Thank you for keeping us updated on the various issues discussed during the tour.

I agree with the former US Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart's saying that "I'll know it, when I see it". I have slightly changed this to "I will believe it, when I see it". Not to sound skeptical but given the way the global economy is declining, the so called Big Society (government, private sector, big donors, etc) are facing a lot of fatigue and are calling on everyone in society to pull up their socks/boot staples and contribute to the greater good that we had all previously come to assume and expect from somewhere/one else (Big Society) - justifiably or otherwise.

Decentralization has been necessitated in part to involve more people (the public citizen) in the running of their affairs (whether time, money, labor, etc. This increased participation leads to more self-policing, accountability and self-interest. In the long-run, all these lead to the greater good.

Transparency is great but it has to go hand-in-hand with actually involving the beneficiaries. Otherwise, it is more information that most of us could well do without given all the other demands competing for our time!

As a public sector employee I think I'm part of the Big Society already. I know what it is and I know what I do - but with cuts and budget restraints this big society that's existed for years before being named that is disappearing. Isn't the public sector the Big Society anyway - and always has been? It is indeed difficult to define and I don't like it being capital B and capital S if that makes sense. Wish I'd been at the event.
