ACCA has 83 offices and active centres around the world and one of them, ACCA’s Romania office, has recently celebrated its fifth birthday. Here’s Andreia Stanciu, the head of ACCA in South-East Europe, to tell you a bit about what the office gets up to…
This year, at the end of March, the Romanian ACCA office celebrated its fifth anniversary with two big events in Bucharest. Our fifth anniversary conference (‘Rethinking business – accountants creating value’) was our biggest-ever conference with nearly 400 attendees from the worlds of business and academia. ACCA’s Chief executive Helen Brand was there to help us celebrate five successful years too.
The office in Romania opened on 26 March 2006, and since then we’ve doubled the number of members and students that we look after to over 4,500 in Romania alone. The office now has 4 members of staff and we’re responsible for ACCA’s members and students in Bulgaria, Moldova, and Greece too. Since opening, we’ve organised nearly 100 technical and social events for our members.
We’ve been working hard for our students and members to unlock doors for them by working closely with local employers and local accountancy associations. We enjoy good relationships with both the Chamber of Financial Auditors (CAFR) and the Body of Expert and Licensed Accountants of Romania (CECCAR): our members have fast-track access to membership of both bodies and we have mutual CPD recognition schemes.
We’re a member of the Association of Economic Faculties here in Romania and we’re involved with plenty of individual universities too. For example, since 2010, we’ve been offering a scholarship to the top student at the Faculty of Accounting Management and Information systems of the Academy of Economic Studies.
It’s been a really successful five years, and I’m really proud of what our team has achieved. We’re looking forward to the next five years!
