Hello all... this is possibly the most wonderful part of the year for all of us ACCA students. After all the sweat put into months of preparing for the first half of the month, the second half is indeed sweeter. I would like to recollect and post some random thoughts about the recent examinations:
The Reading and Planning Time (RAPT) given at the beginning of the exam is a godsend. Having taken exams both prior to and with this extra allowance, there is marked difference in the planning accorded to each answer with the latter. The 15 minutes of time helps in reading the question thoroughly especially the Section A case study question and makes for exercising a more sensible choice in Section B.
In my opinion, the options module of the professional level is slightly more challenging than the essentials module. I am basing this view on P6 and P7 solely as they are the options I have taken. The essential papers of P1, P2 and P3 were comparatively easier than the option papers and perhaps the pass rates will be indicative of the same.
At the professional level, time management in the exams becomes even more important. Unlike the skills level, there is no credit given for simply putting to paper memorized notes. Rather all of the questions require application of concepts to the relevant scenario outlined and thinking on your feet, while keeping a strict eye on the clock. I have to admit given a little more time, the quality of my answers could certainly have been better.
P1 was new paper entirely and I had the dubious distinction of being among the first batch to attempt the paper. I was slightly apprehensive as there was only the pilot paper with a few practice questions and no other past papers reflecting exam style questions. However, the actual exam was alright as long as one knew the syllabus outlined in the study guide.
That is about all for now. There will be more, but in the next post. Do let me know what you thought about the exams. Enjoy this time while it lasts and…
Happy Holidays!
